Our second week started doing lectures with Jinx starting with large mammals and snakes and then moving on to birds. We also went out on a mammal transect early in the morning a 3KM walk looking for mammals which was fun although we only spotted Gazelle.
Unfortunately we had excessive amounts of rain - camp floods really badly when it rains and means we can not really do very much! This resulted in us having to evacuate camp on Thursday not just because of the rain but we also ran out of water! So we all piled into the cars and headed back to Arusha where we spent the night in the backpackers hotel! We headed out into town for food - a mix of Chinese and pizza - I ate so much I was completely stuffed! Then we headed to one of our usual hang outs - the sports bar- for a couple of drinks!
On Friday we did some bird quizzes in the morning to try to learn the difference between all the birds - there are so many to learn I feel a bit lost by it all - and so many have similar colours brown and yellow!
In the afternoon we left Arusha for Monduli where we ended up staying the night. We got a choice of where to stay and most of us chose the luxury lodge which was very spacious and even had TVs. We spent the evening in the bar - no surprise there and you'll be even less surprised to hear I started on the vodka! After quite a lot of drinks the bar closed up (we were the only people in there) after finishing our drinks we weren't yet ready for bed. We could hear music in the background and decided that we would follow the music! Never done that before! We ended up in a club (if you can call it that) it looked just like a school disco in a village hall. The place was packed with African men and there were only too bed in the whole place. The men wanted to dance with all of us and seemed especially keen to dance with the guys in our group - so we decided we had possibly found the gay capital of Tanzania! All in all a very interesting experience!
Saturday we finally headed back to camp and the rain had finally stopped so we spent the remainder of the week chilling out at camp!
